Hosea 2:19,20 (MSG Version)

And Then I'll Marry You For Good – Forever

I'll Marry You True And Proper, In Love And Tenderness

Yes, I'll Marry You And Neither leave You, Nor Let You Go

 Once Upon A Marriage

When we stand at the alter declaring our wedding vows to each other and before God, we are declaring we will stay married till death do us part. The scripture above in Hosea 2:19,20 say's you will marry for good – forever, and also that you will marry, and neither leave, nor let go! So many couples go into marriage and think if this marriage fails I will just get a divorce! God hates divorce! If we would learn to pray for one another and pray that the Lord will empower us to make right choices concerning our marriage, there would be a whole lot of marriages that survive and a lot less divorce. Of course we are going to go through tough seasons in our marriages, but God say's to stand and see the salvation of the Lord.

We all say and do things in the heat of anger. We say things we shouldn't say, or do things we shouldn't do in heated moments. When tempers flare and they will, we do not always make the right choice in an argument. The right choice would be to stop, take time out, pray and cool down, but that is not always the case, because we are fallible human beings. We are individuals, and we think and see things from a different perspective than our spouse. They see one way, we see another way, but just because we don't always agree does not mean they are wrong. They just see things differently than we do. Just because we think we are right, does not mean we are, nor does it mean we are wrong. It just means God made us as individuals and we see differently. All this means is that we should agree to disagree, in order to make peace and bring unity back into the relationship.

We are a workmanship in progress and God is not finished with us. Some of us just need to be on the potters wheel longer in certain areas of our lives, some because of emotional bondages, or past marriage hurts of betrayal, or anger issues, roots of insecurity,  the list can go on and on. God is our deliverer, our healer, our makeover artist. He will bring us out from the ashes and bring beauty out of the mess if we will just hang in there long enough. God wants to heal our brokeness and uproot our pain. He is jealous for us to be made whole and complete so we as a married couple can complement and complete one another. God is painstakingly at work in each of us. We must yeild to God's on going work. This is not always an easy thing to do, but we must relinquish all of our rights to God's right of way. God say's He knows the plans he has for us, plans to prosper us, and not to harm us. God wants to make our marriage beautiful and the center of attention. He wants to show the world what marriage is truly about, and He wants to show Himself as the glorious one through a Christian marriage.

Love is what bonds a marriage together. God upholds the marriage, and understanding and compassion keep the marriage. The key to a successful marriage is building relationship. We must be able to communicate openly with each other without feeling like we are going to be torn down by our marriage partner. We need to feel accepted and loved by them, and not rejected or ignored or criticized by them. We need to be received and we need for our spouse to believe in us. We should be able to openly share private matters with each other without fearing we will be sabotaged by one another. We must comfort and pray for each other, and encourage and build each other up. God is our healer, but we can be just the medicine our spouse needs to bring about healing if applied with love, nurturing, and understanding! We can build up, or tear down, the choice is ours. We can choose to be the safe haven that our spouse needs to come to. Married couples must always protect one another, and make each other feel safe and secure.

Husbands and wives must keep the passion in their marriage, as not to give our spouse a reason to stray from home. Keep the home fires lit. Be available for your spouse when they need you! We have to keep our eyes locked on God, so we will not be tempted to lock them where they should not be. God declares, "whatsoever God has joined together let not man separate." Husbands and wives need to be faithful to one another in word and deed, with your body and your eyes, at all times. Do not give place to the devil. He is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Keep your marriage under lock and key. Always be attentive to your spouses needs, so nobody else is given the opportunity to swish them away. Where love abides, the heart is kept! We need to be able to trust and know that our spouse is true and honorable, at all times. We also need to be trustworthy to our spouse. It's the little foxes that detroy the vine. Pray a hedge of protection around your marriage, and plead the blood of Jesus over your marriage and your spouse. Ask God to be the gate keeper of your marriage. Pray for God to lead and guide your spouse and to deliver them from evil. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your your heart. Always put God first. May you have a rich, God honoring marriage, that will bring glory to the King of glory! Amen
